Testing Services
Gym Flooring / Sport Hall – wood and synthetic
Standards: ASTM, DIN, EN, PUR
Depending on its' type, gym flooring is typically tested for properties which may include force reduction, vertical deformation, ability to withstand a rolling load and/or point load, vertical ball rebound, surface friction / sliding, the extent of a deformation trough, thickness and tensile strength. Surfaces may be tested as installed or in the laboratory as samples.
Types of testing offered: compliance, research, failure & expert analysis
Force reductionPlayground Surfaces – Synthetic surfaces
Standards: ASTM, DIN, EN, IPEMA
In general, playground surfaces are tested for critical height values according to Gmax or HIC. This may be done in the field or on samples supplied to the laboratory. Additional testing for specific conditions might also include fire resistance, porosity, coefficient of friction, wear, tensile strength and aging.
Types of testing offered: compliance, research, quality control, failure & expert analysis
Tennis Courts – Synthetic coatings
Standards: ASTM, DIN, EN
Tennis courts which are not rated for formal ITF competitions, make up the majority of the court systems. The typical concerns are coefficient of friction, color, aging and thickness of coating. These tests are conducted primarily in the laboratory, but some may be done as field tests.
Types of testing offered: compliance, research, failure & expert analysis
Gmax and HIC
Tracks – Synthetic surfaces
Standards: ASTM, DIN, EN, IAAF
Track testing is a specialty of USSL as we are the IAAF approved testing laboratory in the U.S. Track are tested installed or as samples in the laboratory. Depending on the type of testing, tests may include force reduction, vertical deformation, evenness, thickness of synthetic surface, porosity, drainage, tensile properties, evenness of color, coefficient of friction, resistance to wear, aging, fire resistance among others.
Types of testing offered: compliance, research, failure & expert analysis,
IAAF product certification
SlidingArtificial Turf Surfaces (Synthetic Turf)
Standards: ASTM, DIN, EN, FIFA, FIH
Turf testing may be performed on synthetic turf systems. Testing on synthetic systems may be performed on-site or in the laboratory. Each standard or specifying body has its own set of requirements however, some more common tests include force reduction, vertical deformation, vertical ball rebound, rotational resistance, pile height and infill depth measurements, porosity, fiber weight and density, Gmax, and ball roll distance.
Types of testing offered: compliance, research, product identification, failure & expert analysis
